What you need

Making handmade greeting cards is fun and exciting! Perhaps, nothing is more exciting than finding out the expression on the face of the recipient. You see, in the digital age that we are in, people usually send ecards, or buy a generic card from a card rack in an Hallmark store. Yes, that approach is fast, but it loses the personality and creativity that is possible with Handmade cards. And the sender runs the risk of sending the same exact card that someone else sent the recipient. I could go on and on about this art form, and I hope the passion I have for this can be gleaned through this blog dedicated to everything "handmade greeting cards".

I'll explore different styles out there, with many step by step walk through of how I accomplished some really stunning effects that is sure to make the heart of the recipient go "wow". I'll dabble into giant cards, and the minute ones -- great for valentine day's gift.

So what is considered a bare minimum requirements? What exactly would you need in this journey?

  • Drawing table, and office desk will suffice, but since there will be cutting, you can do that on a cutting board.
  • Cutter: I don't like scissors.
  • Ruler: For tracing perfect straight lines during cutting or simply ruling a line.
  • Card stock. The local paper store is your friend in this regard. The heaviness depends on the kind of project you intend to do.
  • Markers and stencils.
  • Digital camera: This is not a must. But if you are doing this commercially, you need to be able build your portfolio gradually by keeping pictures of projects you have done in the past.
  • A nice music playing in the background wouldn't hurt.
  • Desire to experiment
That should get you going initially, as a bare minimum. As we progress I'll introduce other items as the project demands. So come on down with me on this exciting journey, let's go make some cards, for fun or profit!
